Stereopony is a Japanese rock band formed in Okinawa in 2007. The band consists of AIMI (guitar/lead vocals), NOHANA (bass), and SHIHO (drums). They are currently signed to Sony Music Japan’s gr8! Records music label.
Before their major debut, AIMI, NOHANA and SHIHO together with guitarist SAKI were members of an all-girl indie band called MIXBOX. Their song “Baby” was included in the Koza Music Festival Vol. 9 compilation.
The band gained their first opportunity on the Japanese radio program School of Lock.
Most of Stereopony’s songs were used in various anime series and movies. Their debut song Hitohira no Hanabira was the 17th ending theme for the anime series Bleach. Their first single was released on November 5, 2008.
Their second single Namida no Mukou was the second opening theme for the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Namida no Mukou ranked second in Oricon charts.
The band’s third single, I do it was a collaboration with fellow Sony Music Japan singer YUI. The song was composed when Stereopony and YUI had a surprise jamming session at Okinawa during YUI’s break. I do it was released on April 22, 2009.
Their debut studio album Hydrangea ga Saiteiru was released on June 17, 2009 and ranked #7 on the Oricon weekly charts. The album’s first track, Seishun ni Sono Namida ga Hitsuyou da! was used as the theme song of MTV Lipfes, an event sponsored by MTV and Lipton Iced Tea. Hydrangea ga Saiteiru was available in regular and limited editions. The limited edition album included a photobook and a DVD which featured the band’s first four music videos and footages from SWSX Tour in the USA last March 2008.
Stereopony’s 4th single, Smilife was used as the theme song of anime movie Yatterman and was released on Aug 18, 2009. Their latest single Tsukiakari no Michishirube was the opening theme of the second season of anime series Darker than Black Ryusei no Gemini.
Stereopony will release their first live DVD on Dec. 16 entitled 1st Tour A hydrangea blooms 2009.
